The construction industry is often seen as restrictive and lagging, technology-wise. At Clyde Companies, we’re working to break that stigma by embracing the use and implementation of new technology. We’re collaborating with vendors to ensure their technologies enhance our work efforts and increase productivity. We are advocates of continuous improvement efforts, and technology is the gateway that will get us there. Below are examples of ways technology has been effectively utilized at Clyde Companies.
Microsoft Teams
The implementation of Microsoft Teams has entirely changed our work processes for the better. Internal communications are now done almost exclusively through Teams chats. Organizational charts and documents are accessible in Teams channels. It’s a one-stop shop for information from all of our subsidiary companies.
And we don’t just give office staff access to Teams – every employee receives Teams access to connect, engage, and collaborate across the company – hourly, part-time, union, non-union, field labor, etc. Everyone has access and is accessible.
Tyfoom
With Tyfoom, we’ve enabled microlearning to help our employees continue to learn at the company. Each workday, every employee watches a two-minute training video. These videos cover general workplace topics, safety training, and position-specific training. We continue to add videos to our library that help our employees expand their knowledge, abilities, and safe work practices.
Cell Phone Stipends
We’ve asked our employees to do a lot with their phones because of our mobile strategy. To help offset the cost of a phone and data plan, we’ve provided employees with a stipend or a company phone/tablet. We’ve included safety features on our tablets that make them inoperable in trucks when in motion in the field – safety will always be our first priority.
Customer-Facing Transparency
Our increased technology use isn’t just with employees – it’s on the customer-facing side as well. At the online Sunpro store, customers can order
materials and equipment through our app and follow the step-by-step progress of their order throughout its journey while having easy access to pay their account balances online. We have similar solutions in place across all our subsidiary companies, including in our online sand and gravel catalogs for both Geneva Rock and Sunroc. Some companies try and mask supply chain problems, but we give our customers full transparency on everything that happens along the way.
Conclusion
Because of our increased use of technology, communication between all levels of management has become more transparent and accessible. Presidents of our subsidiary companies are regularly engaging with front-line workers. They’ve made themselves more accessible to their employees than ever before. Consistent communication such as this is key to the success of any company.
At Clyde Companies, we are forward-thinking. We need our solutions to be adaptive, intuitive, and collaborative. We’ll continue to evaluate additional vendors and opportunities for technological advancement as we look to the future and continue to build better communities across the Intermountain West and Great Plains regions.
